Look up Australian clients by ABN
Add new clients and keep existing ones up to date with official details from the Australian Business Register.
Australian workspaces can search the Australian Business Register (ABR) directly from Tidyflow. Use it to add new clients with official details prefilled, or to refresh an existing client’s record from their ABN.
ABN lookup is available when your workspace’s Base Country is set to Australia; see Which regions does Tidyflow support?.
Add a client from an ABN lookup
- Go to the Clients page and click the + button.
- Choose ABN Lookup.
- Pick a search type: ABN (the 11-digit number) or Business Name.
- Enter the ABN or name and click Search.
- On the matching result, click Add Client.
The new client form opens with the official details prefilled. Click Details on any result first if you want to review the full record before adding it.
Update an existing client from their ABN
Open the client and go to their details. In the Australian business fields:
- If the client has no ABN yet, click Find ABN. Tidyflow searches the ABR by the client’s name so you can pick the right entity.
- If the client already has an 11-digit ABN, click Update from ABN. Tidyflow fetches the latest company details from the ABR and updates only the matching fields on the client record.
What the lookup fills in
Results come from the official ABR record and can include:
- Entity name and entity type
- ABN and ACN
- ABN status (for example Active) and effective date
- GST registration status and effective date
- Registered business names and main trading name
- Business address
- Charity type, where applicable
Where the details are stored
Australian workspaces get extra fields on every client record, including ABN, ACN, ABN status, entity type, and GST registration. You can also edit these fields manually at any time; the lookup is a faster way to keep them accurate.
