Choose how Tidyflow notifies you
Control which events notify you, and turn on desktop notifications so new inbox email reaches you even when Tidyflow is closed.
Tidyflow notifies you in two places: the Inbox in the firm app, and by email. New mail arriving in a connected inbox can also raise a desktop notification, so you see it when Tidyflow is closed or sitting in another tab. These work on a phone too, through the Home Screen web app.
Your notification settings are personal. Changing them affects only you, not the rest of your team.
Where to change your notifications
Go to Settings > Notifications.
The page has two parts:
- Notification types decides which events Tidyflow emails you about
- Desktop notifications decides whether new inbox email also appears as a notification from your browser
Choose which events notify you
Under Notification types, turn individual events on or off. Each switch controls whether Tidyflow emails you about that event, and they cover:
- Jobs: a Job assigned to you, a new comment, a comment that mentions you, a Job reminder, and a Job being completed
- Client requests and documents: a client completing a request, a document approved, changes requested on a document, and a reminder chase that has stopped
- Files: a file uploaded by a contact, and a file sent through a client upload link
- Proposals: a proposal accepted or declined
- Agent teammates: an agent asking you a question, finishing a session, or stalling
One switch is different: New email push notifications is what desktop notifications use, described below.
To be notified about a particular client’s activity rather than a type of event, follow the client instead. See Follow a client and get notifications.
Turn on desktop notifications
Desktop notifications cover new email arriving in a connected inbox. No other notification type uses them.
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Under Desktop notifications, choose to enable them on this device
- Allow notifications when your browser asks
Each device is enabled separately, so turning them on for your laptop does not turn them on for your desktop. Enabled devices are listed with when they were last active, and you can remove any of them from the same page. Send a test notification confirms a device is working.
Two settings sit alongside the device list:
- Notification previews shows the sender and subject in the notification itself. Turn it off if your screen is visible to others, and the notification will say only that mail has arrived.
- Shared email accounts decides which shared mailboxes may notify you. Use it when you can see several mailboxes but only own the work in one.
If desktop notifications do not arrive
Check these in order:
- The device is not enabled. Each browser on each machine is separate, and clearing your browser’s site data removes the permission.
- Notifications are blocked. Check the site permissions in your browser, and then the notification settings of the operating system itself, which can suppress a browser that is otherwise allowed.
- Your browser does not support them. The page says so directly when this is the cause.
- On an iPhone or iPad, Tidyflow must be added to your Home Screen first. Apple does not allow notifications from an ordinary Safari tab. See the section below.
- The mail was not eligible. Only new mail in a connected inbox raises a desktop notification, and only from the shared mailboxes you selected.
Notifications on your phone
You can get these notifications on an iPhone or iPad, but through the Tidyflow web app rather than the App Store app.
- Open Tidyflow in Safari on the device
- Use the share menu and choose Add to Home Screen
- Open Tidyflow from the new Home Screen icon
- Go to Settings > Notifications and enable desktop notifications there
Notifications then arrive like any other app’s. On Android, adding Tidyflow to the Home Screen works the same way, though Chrome can also notify you without it.
The App Store and Google Play apps are separate and do not send notifications yet. Using them alongside the Home Screen web app is fine, and the web app is what will notify you. See Use the Tidyflow mobile app.
