Client Portal & Requests

Using the client portal

Sign in to your accountant's client portal, find your way around, and see where requests, documents, invoices, and shared links live.

Your accountant uses the client portal to share documents with you and to ask for the information they need. This article covers signing in and finding your way around. To work through a request once you are in, see Complete a request from your accountant.

Sign in to the client portal

The client portal is at https://portal.tidyflow.com. Your firm may also send you a link straight to it.

There are two ways to sign in:

  • Email me a login link. Enter your email address and select Email me a login link. Tidyflow emails you a secure link that signs you in when you open it. No password needed.
  • Use password instead. Enter your email address, select Use password instead, then enter your password and select Log in.

When your accountant first gives you portal access, they can email you a secure link. You can use that link straight away and set a password later.

The client portal is separate from the firm app. If you land on a sign-in page that mentions signing in as a firm user, you are in the wrong place; go to https://portal.tidyflow.com instead.

Set a password for the client portal

You do not need a password to use the client portal, but you can set one so you can sign in without waiting for an email.

  1. Sign in to the client portal.
  2. Open the menu under your name in the top right and go to your profile.
  3. In the Set Password section, enter and save a password.

If you have forgotten your password, select Forgot password? on the sign-in page, or just request a login link instead.

What you see in the client portal

The row along the top of the client portal is the navigation. What appears there depends on how your firm has set things up, so you may see fewer items than another client does:

  • Requests is anything your accountant is waiting on from you. This is always shown.
  • Documents is where files are shared, in both directions.
  • Billing is your invoices. It appears if your firm has given you access to billing.
  • Resources is a list of links your firm has shared. It appears once they have added at least one.

If your accountant sent you a link to one specific request, you may see only Requests until you sign in to the portal itself.

Respond to a request from your accountant

Select Requests to see everything waiting on you. The Open tab lists what is outstanding and the Completed tab holds what you have already sent back. Each row shows the due date and how many items are done.

Select a request to open it. Short requests open in place. Longer ones, such as a tax organizer, open into a set of short sections you can work through in any order, and everything saves as you go so you can stop and come back.

For the full walkthrough, including uploading documents, reusing last year’s answers, and submitting, see Complete a request from your accountant.

Find documents your accountant has shared

Select Documents to see the files your firm has shared with you, organized into folders. Select a folder to open it, then select a file to view or download it. Some folders are marked View only.

You do not have to wait to be asked before sending something. Select Upload to add a file at any time. It goes to your accountant along with a notification, so nothing gets lost in an email thread.

View and pay invoices

If your firm has given you billing access, select Billing to see your invoices across all your accounts, with the total, what is still outstanding, and the status of each one. Select an invoice to open its PDF.

When your firm accepts online payments, outstanding invoices show payment buttons so you can pay by card or by bank transfer. Card payments may include a processing fee, which is shown on the button before you choose it. If you do not see payment buttons, your firm takes payment another way; contact them directly.

Resources your firm has shared

Select Resources for the links your firm wants you to have on hand, such as government forms, tax deadlines, or sign-in pages for other software you use. Selecting one opens it in a new tab. Your firm decides what appears here.

If you are linked to more than one client

You may be linked to more than one client, for example a business and a personal account. You still have one login for all of them.

Requests and invoices from every account appear in one list, and each row carries a label showing which account it belongs to. On Documents, use the account selector above the folder list to switch between them.

Each person gets their own portal login, so two people on the same account never have to share one. If someone else needs access, ask your accountant to add them.
