Client Portal & Requests
Client upload links
Share a no-login upload link with clients, see what they experience, and find, secure, and get notified about the files they send.
An upload link lets anyone send you files without logging in. Tidyflow gives you two kinds: a firm upload link that is the same for everyone, and a per-client upload link unique to each client. Both are upload-only, so nobody can use them to view or download files.
Not sure an upload link is the right tool? How to Collect Files from Clients compares upload links with client requests and the client portal.
Copy the firm upload link
The firm upload link is the same for your whole firm and never changes, so it is safe to put in your email signature, standard templates, and website.
- Go to Files in the main navigation
- Click the link icon at the top right (the tooltip says Copy upload link)
Copy a client’s upload link
Each client has their own upload link. Files sent through it arrive already attached to that client, so there is no manual filing.
- Open the client and go to their Files tab
- Click the ⋯ menu at the top right of the page
- Click Copy Upload Link
The client’s link stays the same over time, so you can reuse it in onboarding emails or anywhere you write to that specific client. Because it is unique per client, do not use it in templates that go to everyone.
What clients see when they open an upload link
The upload link opens a simple form, with no login required. The uploader can:
- Enter their email address, so you know who sent the files
- Add an optional comment
- Upload one or more files
After submitting, they see a confirmation message. The email address and comment are recorded in each file’s history.

Where uploaded files are saved
Files sent through a client’s upload link are saved in that client’s Client Uploads folder, on the client’s Files tab. The folder is created automatically on first upload, is visible only to your team, and is not shared with the client unless you share it.
Files sent through the firm upload link are not tied to a client, so they land in an Uploads folder at the top of your Files page, with the uploader’s email shown against each file. Move them into the right client’s folder from there.
Can clients see files sent through an upload link?
No. Upload links are upload-only: they cannot be used to browse, view, or download anything, and the Client Uploads folder is not shared with any contact by default.
If you want a client to see what they have sent, you can share the Client Uploads folder with their contacts like any other folder. Contacts with access then view it by logging in to the client portal; the upload link itself stays upload-only. See How to share files with Contacts.
Who gets notified about upload-link files?
- Client upload link: team members who follow that client receive an Inbox notification with the uploader’s email and a link to the folder. See Follow a Client and Get Notifications.
- Firm upload link: everyone in your workspace receives the notification, since the files are not tied to a client yet.
Check who uploaded a file
The email address and comment the uploader entered are saved with each file. In the file list, hover over the upload-link file to see them, shown as “Uploaded by” with the email address, and the comment underneath. The Inbox notification includes the uploader’s email as well.
